The CW Still Developing WONDER WOMAN Origin Pilot AMAZON

wonderwomankickssuperman

Last year, it was reported that The CW was developing a television pilot that would retell the origin of DC Comics’ Wonder Woman. Titled Amazon, the pilot was compared to Smallville and would follow Diana Prince before she gained superpowers and became perhaps the greatest heroine of all time. Especially with the recent success of Arrow, it’d make more sense for the network to move forward with more DC-based shows. However, Amazon failed to find a slot onto The CW’s fall 2013 schedule. At the network’s upfront presentations this week, CW president Mark Pedowitz said that the pilot was still in development, and they’re currently working on getting it right. It’s being redeveloped. We don’t want to produce something that doesn’t do the franchise justice. It’s the trickiest of all the DC characters.” Heroes scribe Aron Eli Coleite is rewriting the pilot, which was originally scripted by Allan Heinberg. It’s possible that Amazon will be greenlit for a spring 2014 premiere if picked up. [Entertainment Weekly]

Brad Bird Talks THE INCREDIBLES Sequel And Turning Down Disney’s STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

bradbird

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, acclaimed director Brad Bird offered an update on a possible sequel to Pixar’s 2004 superhero film The Incredibles. He says that he has ideas for a potential follow-up, and is trying to build a proper story consisting of said ideas. “I have been thinking about it. People think that I have not been, but I have. Because I love those characters and love that world. I am stroking my chin and scratching my head. I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another [Incredibles] film, and if I can get ‘em to click all together, I would probably wanna do that. I like the idea of moving a little more quickly in films. I’m looking for ways to accelerate the pace a little bit and figure out a way to keep creative control over these movies to a level where I’m comfortable with the end result but also speed them up a bit and make more of them. I have many different films I wanna make. It’s like a big airplane hangar and I have different projects on the floor; half-assembled in my brain. I’m interested in all of them. You kind of have to move on the ones people are willing to pay for and the ones you’re most excited about.”

Last year, Bird was at the top of many people’s wishlists to direct Star Wars: Episode VII for Disney and Lucasfilm, but eventually came out and said that he wasn’t planning on taking the job. As we know, J.J. Abrams was hired to helm the project. Here, Bird confirms that he was indeed offered to direct the film by Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas, but the schedule would’ve conflicted with Disney’s other upcoming sci-fi film Tomorrowland“I’ve known Kathy [Kennedy] for a while and I know George. And they did come to me. But the problem was, the schedule they had in mind made it impossible to do…unless I dropped Tomorrowland. And I was just really deeply into this film at that point. It’s easy to say, “Just put it on hold.” But you’re moving now; you don’t know if you’re going to be able to move later. Maybe it’s true of filmmakers like Cameron or Spielberg, but I have to act on momentum. We had reached a critical mass where it would’ve thrown the furniture around from the train stopping. I really want to see this movie. I love the Star Wars films, and I can’t wait to see what J.J. does, but it meant I’d have to shut down one dream to participate in another. I feel like [with Tomorrowland] we’re making something that’s really special and unique.” Tomorrowland is set to hit theaters December 19th, 2014.

*With filming well underway, Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has added perhaps its most unexpected and welcome addition to the cast. William Fitchner, who will soon be seen as a villain in Disney’s The Lone Ranger, has joined the Michael Bay-produced adaptation as “a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.” While no character has been named yet, it’s being widely speculated that Fitchner is playing the villainous Shredder. Megan Fox stars as April O’Neil, with Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Will Arnett and Danny Woodburn also on board. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to hit theaters June 6th, 2014. [Deadline]

crow

*This casting story actually broke last weekend, so forgive the delay. After a long search, Relativity Media has finally found an actor to star in The Crow remake: Luke Evans, who will be seen this year as the villain in Fast & Furious 6 and as Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug. Due to the actor’s busy schedule (he was actually the original choice to play Eric Draven),  production will now begin early next year. Evans was recently cast in the lead role for Universal’s Dracula Year Zero, which hits theaters August 2014. [Deadline]

enzo-cilenti

*The following tweet has since been deleted for unknown reasons, but actor Enzo Cilenti (Kick-Ass 2) stated the following earlier this week. “I may or may not be in #Guardiansofthegalaxy. I am sworn to secrecy so can’t say. In entirely unrelated news, “I am”.” Of course, his role is unknown, but Cilenti joins an impressive cast which includes Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker and Lee Pace. Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to hit theaters August 1st, 2014. *Underworld actress Sophia Myles is the latest to join Michael Bay’s fourth Transformers film, which will begin filming next month. She will reportedly play a scientist in a major supporting role. Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammar star in the Paramount Pictures production, which is set to hit theaters June 27th, 2014. [The Wrap]

Richard-Madden

*Disney announced this week that Game Of Thrones actor Richard Madden has landed the role of the Prince in the live action Cinderella adaptation. “Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) has been cast as the Prince in Disney’s upcoming live-action Cinderella. As previously announced, the film is being directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, stars Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and features Lily James in the title role.” Production may begin this fall.

THE HOST Star Saoirse Ronan Being Considered To Play Scarlet Witch In THE AVENGERS 2?

scarletronan

Here’s an intriguing casting rumor for Marvel’s highly anticipated sequel to The Avengers. Recently, it was seemingly confirmed that mutant brother and sister Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be featured in Joss Whedon’s follow-up to the biggest comic book movie of all time, and now we have our first word on who might be in consideration to take on the role of the former. Apparently, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan (who most recently starred in The Host) is Marvel’s “prototype” for who to look at to play Wanda Maximoff. No offer has been made to Ronan, of course, but this rumor heavily suggests that Scarlet Witch will be younger in The Avengers 2 than in the comics. As for Pietro/Quicksilver? The character is “only described as being “euro” and “edgy,” but there are plenty of British actors in their 20s who could fit that bill.” With filming expected to begin in February, The Avengers 2 is set to hit theaters May 1st, 2015. Warner Bros. Pushes Back 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE And ALL YOU NEED IS KILL Release Dates

riseoftheemipre393849348121

Warner Bros. has shuffled its upcoming schedule a bit, setting new release dates for 300: Rise Of An Empire and All You Need Is Kill. The former, a sequel to the 2007 Frank Miller adaptation, is now slated for a March 7th, 2014 release. Considering that the film was originally scheduled for August, this is quite a delay. However, it shouldn’t be too surprising as we haven’t seen much from it marketing-wise. Also, the first film made $456M+ worldwide when it was released during the same time six years ago. Additionally, Tom Cruise’s sci-fi actioner All You Need Is Kill (which was previously set for March 7th) will now arrive Junes 6th that year. It will face off against Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot on that date (marking the second time WB had an upcoming film share a release date with that film; the Michael Bay-produced reboot was once set to open opposite Godzilla on May 16th). All You Need Is Kill may serve better as a summer blockbuster rather than a spring release. According to JoBlo, “the airport scene involves Wolverine….and Professor X. The new scene has the two of them walking into the airport and then going into a freeze frame. The source goes on to say that while things could always change, this is what he/she witnessed and was told on the set of the re-shoot.” Very interesting. The Wolverine is set to hit theaters July 26th.

Jurassic_Park_T_Rex_Wallpaper_by_keeperxiii

In some disappointingly unexpected news, Universal has announced that Jurassic Park 4 will not be released on its original June 13th, 2014 date. The studio released the following statement:  “In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise. No other date has been provided, so it’s currently unknown when Jurassic Park 4 will arrive in theaters.
