Warner Bros. Shutting Down Production On David Yates’ TARZAN; Will It Be Ready For A 2014 Shoot?

Some disappointing news for those hoping to see a new Tarzan movie on the big screen soon has landed online. The adaptation that Warner Bros. had in development, with Harry Potter helmer David Yates in the director’s chair and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) considering the title role, will no longer go into production this year. It sounds like the budget is too high, and the studio is reconfiguring it. Casting may have also been an issue; Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) has been circling the role of Jane Porter, but WB was unable to lock a deal with Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained) to play the third lead role, which could be George Washington Williams (a character that Samuel L. Jackson was being targeted for). This is sure to be a disappointment for the studio, as the film has been in development for some time. However, it’s being said that WB may try getting Tarzan into production again next year, and that Yates is still attached. The studio has scrapped productions for high budgets,  such as Paradise LostAkira and Arthur & Lancelot. Hopefully, Tarzan won’t have the same fate. [Deadline]
