This week wasn’t quite as active in casting news unfortunately, but we have some exciting stories below. Man Of Steel‘s Faora lands a role in Brett Ratner’s Hercules, Christopher Nolan is reuniting with a star from The Dark Knight Rises for Interstellar, and Morgan Freeman boards the sci-fi flick Transcendence.
*Director Brett Ratner has tweeted the announcement that actress Antje Traue (who will soon be seen as Faora in Man Of Steel) has joined the cast of his upcoming epic Hercules (which is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars), but the tweet (as well as Ratner’s account in fact) has since been deleted. There is no word on who Traue will play, but she joins an ensemble cast led by Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes and Rufus Sewell. Hercules is set to hit theaters July 25th, 2014. *Christopher Nolan is deep in developing his upcoming sci-fi film Interstellar, which already has Matthew McConaughey (Magic Mike) set to star. The latest news on the project is that Anne Hathaway, who recently worked with Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises, is in final negotiations to reteam with the acclaimed writer-director. No details on either lead characters, and the story is under wraps as well (as per Nolan’s style). However, Interstellar, inspired by physicist Kip S. Thorne and his theory of wormholes/time travel, follows “a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.” The film, which is a Warner Bros./Paramount Pictures co-production, is set to hit theaters November 7th, 2014. *Interstellar isn’t the only 2014 sci-fi film that Nolan is involved with. He’s also executive producing Transcendence, the directorial debut of cinematographer Wally Pfister. With filming expected to begin next month, the film has assembled an impressive cast which includes Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany Rebecca Hall. Now, we have word on a major addition: Morgan Freeman (who played Lucius Fox in The Dark Knight Trilogy) is joining the production, the story of which is being kept under wraps. No details on the actor’s character either, but Depp, Bettany and Hall are reportedly playing scientists. Transcendence is set to hit theaters April 25th, 2014. [The Hollywood Reporter]
