THE WALKING DEAD’s Michael Rooker To Play ‘Yondu’ In Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

After finishing his run as Merle Dixon on AMC’s The Walking Dead, Michael Rooker has found his next high profile gig. He previously expressed interest in reteaming with director and close friend James Gunn on Marvel Studios’ upcoming space epic Guardians Of The Galaxy, which led to his being fancast as Rocket Raccoon. Rooker IS appearing in the film (which begins filming this summer), but not as a gun toting ‘coon. He has been cast as Yondu, “a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV, the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun’s solar system. The character is a founding member of the original Guardians Of The Galaxy team in the 1960s comic books. Chris Pratt will star as, ahem, Star-Lord, with Dave Bautista on board as Drax The Destroyer and Zoe Saldana in talks to play Gamora.  Still remaining to be filled are the roles of Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to hit theaters August 1st, 2014.
