The press junkets for Iron Man 3 are kicking off, so a slew of interviews are inevitably coming our way. Speaking with Collider, Don Cheadle (who plays James Rhodes/War Machine/Iron Patriot in the highly anticipated threequel) was asked about the possibility of reprising the role in the planned sequel to The Avengers, and whether or not he has asked writer-director Joss Whedon about appearing. “No I have not, but I know that [there are] conversations that have been happening, so we’ll see what happens. If that’s able to happen and it makes sense for the story, I’m sure it’ll happen, and if not it’s fine. It has to work within the world and sort of the mythology of the whole Marvel universe.” And due to the Iron Patriot armor obviously being heavily inspired by the Captain America outfit, and the currently shooting The Winter Soldier taking place in Washington DC, could we see Rhodey appear in that film? “I think I’m gonna go to the set, so maybe if my suit is in the trunk I’ll just walk on.” You can check out Iron Patriot in action in Iron Man 3 on May 3rd. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4th, 2014, while The Avengers 2 arrives May 1st, 2015.
