Joss Whedon Teases Inclusion Of “Brother/Sister Act” In THE AVENGERS 2; Is It Quicksilver And Scarlet Witch?

At the premiere of Iron Man 3 last night, The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon offered an update on the highly anticipated sequel. He says that writing the film is in a “very good place”, and also talks about Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. But most significantly, he teases the inclusion of a “brother/sister act” in the next Avengers movie. Check out the quotes below (thanks to Comic Book Movie for the arrangement):

“I have actually finished a draft, we’re in a very good place. It’s going really well, eventually somebody will explain to me that it’s not. But I’ve been writing, meeting with actors, and we’re starting to storyboard and all the preliminary processes. This is the part where it’s all still fun. It’s an evolution, and that goes on all through shooting and it never stops. I’ve done enough shows and movies to be comfortable with that. You do come to a point where we all agree …‘Oh, I’ve got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic books; a brother/sister act. They’re in the movie, that’s exciting.’ You lock certain things in. But then there’s a certain fluidity when you’re working with Robert [Downey Jr.]. He’s going to want to do something new on the day, and you’re going to want him to, because it’s going to be funny. So you always keep yourself open. I try not to think of it as topping The Avengers, I try to think of this as its own movie.”

“And by the way, Shane [Black] not helping! Iron Man 3 not helping! I see this and said, ‘Aw, man, he really got it right!’ The pressure continues! When Tony sees another superhero, he increases his swagger. Tony, he sees Thor, and he says, ‘Yeah, I got a suit of muscles that big. I invented it! Oh, you can pick up a hammer? You’re so special!’ He sees it as a challenge! He loves it.”

The first thing that comes to mind concerning a brother and sister serving as Avengers is Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (Pietro and Wanda Maximoff), the children of X-Men’s Magneto. While the mutant duo would seem to be owned by Fox due to their X-Men connections, Marvel’s Kevin Feige said last year, “It’s a little complicated; If [Fox] wants to use them in an X-Men movie they could, if we want to use them in an Avengers movie we could.” The Avengers 2 is set to hit theaters May 1st, 2015.
