In this week’s casting news round-up: Some minor additions to 2014 Marvel films X-Men: Days Of Future Past and Guardians Of The Galaxy, a Spartacus star has joined Hercules 3D, and another addition to the sci-fi thriller Transcendence.
*With Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past now well into production, we have word on yet another addition to its massive cast. Adan Canto (The Following) confirmed on his Twitter account earlier this week that he has landed a role in the ensemble cast of the inbetweenquel, which stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and many more X-Men veterans. As for who he’s playing, Canto doesn’t say, but he recently hinted at an upcoming project with “I might turn into a ball of fire if someone pisses me off.” This led to speculation that he will play Sunfire or Sunspot. In other news, Bryan Singer recently confirmed that both Bishop and Warpath will be in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, which hits theaters July 18th, 2014.
*Another minor addition to a Marvel movie has been made this week, as British actress Ophelia Lovibond (Mr. Popper’s Penguins, No Strings Attached) has landed a minor supporting role in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Details on her role are being kept under wraps, but she’s reportedly playing “an aide to a being called The Collector [one of the Elders of the Universe], who gathers artifacts and beings in the hopes of saving them from a foretold galactic annihilation.” Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace and Michael Rooker also star in the space epic, which begins filming in June. Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to hit theaters August 1st, 2014. [The Hollywood Reporter]
*Spartacus: War Of The Damned star Liam McIntyre has found his next major project, as he has joined Kellan Lutz in Millennium’s Hercules 3D, which will shoot next month for a March 2014 release. The actor will play “a young army captain who becomes Hercules’ most trusted battlefield companion. After an evil king deceives them, Hercules and the captain are sold into slavery and must fight side by side to earn their freedom.” This will mark his first major Hollywood role. Die Hard 2 director Renny Harlin will helm Hercules 3D. [The Hollywood Reporter]
*With filming set to begin in May, we have word on yet another addition to Warner Bros.’ upcoming sci-fi film Transcendence, which stars Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany and Morgan Freeman. Cole Hauser, who was recently seen in A Good Day To Die Hard and Olympus Has Fallen, has landed a role in the Christopher Nolan-executive produced film, which will mark the directorial debut of cinematographer Wally Pfister. The actor will play “a military officer called upon to save the world.” Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is described as “being in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception. Depp stars as a man who creates a computer that develops a malevolent awareness.” Transcendence is set to hit theaters April 18th, 2014. [The Hollywood Reporter
